Krushevo, 22 May 2023 (MIA) – The Krushevo 2023 City of Culture events are set to officially begin on Friday under the motto “Krushevo – a Living Monument of Culture.” At a press conference Monday, Minister of Culture Bisera Kostadinovska Stojchevska said that “Krushevo will vibrate in the rhythm of Macedonian culture, and promote Macedonian identity and uniqueness.”
“It is no coincidence that this year, which marks 120 years since the Ilinden Uprising, we assign special importance and attention to this city rich with history, heritage, present and future, turning it into a city of culture for all domestic and foreign visitors. Krushevo will vibrate in the rhythm of Macedonian culture and promote Macedonian identity and uniqueness. This is a chance to showcase the unique identity of Krushevo, and put the city on the map of Europe as a cultural and tourist center,” said Kostadinovska Stojchevska.
One of the priorities of the Culture Ministry is the promotion of the availability of Macedonian culture, and through the City of Culture project, the Ministry strengthens the cultural development and the development of tourism on the local level, through cooperation with the local self-government. The rich cultural program will contribute to the economy and tourism of the Municipality of Krushevo.
The Mayor of Krushevo, Tome Hristoski, stressed that this is a significant event for the city, since it allows it to assume its deserved position as the country’s cultural epicenter.
“The title City of Culture is not only a recognition, but also proof of the city’s commitment to art, to the protection and showcasing of its cultural wealth and the commitment to inspiring future generations. Krushevo will enable the realization of a rich cultural program during the entire year, as well as international cooperation in the field of culture,” said Hristoski at the press conference.
The City of Culture series of events will begin on Friday, May 26, with an event at the Martinoski Gallery dedicated to renowned Macedonian painter Nikola Martinoski, who was born in Krushevo. Later in the day, at the Makedonium monument, the Bitola Chamber Orchestra will give a concert featuring more than a dozen Macedonian pop singers performing evergreen songs.
