Kovachevski: Successful resolution of gruesome murders underscores the significance of international collaboration with partners

Brussels, 6 December 2023 (MIA) - Speaking in Brussels on Wednesday, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski stressed that the collaboration, both regionally and internationally, in all areas is crucial for progress not only in the economy, trade, and investments but especially in the fight against crime and the enforcement of the law. This was demonstrated in yesterday's successful resolution of the gruesome double murder that shook North Macedonia, the region, and the international community, he emphasized.

During the opening remarks at the final session of the screening process, Kovachevski also referred to the case of last week's double murder, emphasizing that it underscores the importance of international cooperation that the country has with EU partners and countries in the region.

According to the MIA’s Brussels correspondent, Kovachevski pointed out that, based on the evidence collected by the police in the pre-investigation procedure related to this case, criminal investigation is launched against five people, of whom one is charged with abduction and murder, three are charged with abduction and accessory to murder, whereas one for accessory to abduction.

"Last night, our Interior Minister (Oliver) Spasovski received a report from colleagues in the Republic of Turkey that the mastermind and direct perpetrator of the crime has been apprehended and detained on their territory. This aligns with the operational insights our police had regarding the suspect's movements, following the issuance of an urgent international arrest warrant by Interpol on December 4, 2023," Kovachevski highlighted.

He also extended his gratitude for the successful collaborative efforts to Turkey, Serbia, and Bulgaria, whose territories the suspect moved. Furthermore, he appreciated Croatia for its proactive initiative in conducting checks on its territory and keeping partner services in the country informed and for the outstanding collaboration within Interpol.

“This was yet another successful example that only through close, joint cooperation we can expect successful results in any field. I appreciate all the collaboration and support that North Macedonia has received over the past 32 years in its development, the progress of democratic society, economic growth, and the ensuring of social security. I assure you that this government, led by me, will continue North Macedonia's path toward European integration. Alongside the citizens and together with you, we look forward to celebrating the Republic of North Macedonia's full membership in the European Union by 2030,” PM Kovachevski said addressing the final session of the screening on Cluster 6, covering Chapter 30: External Relations and Chapter 31: Foreign, Security and Defence Policy, which marks completion of EU screening process for North Macedonia.
