Skopje, 2 March 2024 (MIA) - SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski met Saturday with Spanish Prime Minister and leader of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE), Pedro Sanchez, at the sidelines of the Election Congress of the Party of European Socialists (PES) held in Rome.

Interlocutors affirmed the importance of fostering social-democratic values as a foundation of democratic societies that contribute to the economic and social development of the European continent, SDSM said in a press release.

Kovachevski said only SDSM can provide North Macedonia with a clear perspective for European integration, European standards and values.

He said the SDSM-led government has strengthened democracy and rule of law in North Macedonia, progress has been made in judiciary reforms and market economy.

As a result of these policies, added the SDSM leader, the country joined NATO and started the EU accession talks, whereas the country demonstrated that it favors the side of peace, stability, goodneighborly relations, economic growth and development, while improving the lives of all citizens.

Sanchez said the opening of the EU accession negotiations is not only of great significance for the country's reforms but also because of the current geopolitical and security developments in the region and Europe.

The PSOE leader welcomed North Macedonia's constructive approach and its partnership with the EU amid the challenges arising from the military aggression in Ukraine, reads the press release.
