Kovachevski: People our biggest value, goals accomplished through faith, optimism and wisdom

Skopje, 30 December 2023 (MIA) - Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski says in his New Year's message that faith, optimism and wisdom are needed the most at this time.

"We leave another year behind us, a year that was not easy at all. Nevertheless, we should be proud of what we have accomplished. We worked hard, with commitment and focus amid the most difficult crisis. We worked to make life better, so that everyone has a bit more. And most importantly, no one was left alone," says PM Kovachevski in the message.

He says the average wages has exceeded EUR 600, pensions have increased by almost 50 percent, while the minimum wage has doubled.

"I assure you, wages and pensions will continue to rise in the coming year. The anti-crisis measures have helped improve the standard of life of households and businesses. Pensioners, students, pupils, single parents and the most vulnerable groups could rely on us," says Kovachevski.

He says foreign investments have doubled, unemployment has dropped, whereas farmers have received advance payment of subsidies for the first time on record.

"We continue to transform the country into a green energy hub in Europe. We achieved a lot together because we worked hard, through equality and solidarity, and will continue to do the same. There is much more we can do, and what we need the most at this time is faith, optimism and wisdom," says Kovachevski.

I say this, notes Kovachevski, not only as PM but as a citizen, father, husband, a person who sees his future at home, in his homeland.

"We need all the knowledge we have to accomplish the goals ahead. I often say that our advantage, our biggest value are the people, our citizens, because we have the capacity, the skills, the will to make the next steps. To move forward and improve people's lives, to do the most important thing and keep young people at home, to bring back those who have left, because the European path we have taken does not stop. We must look forward because the European path will bring development and a better tomorrow," says Kovachevski.

The PM adds his optimism is based on realism, since all it takes is to do things together.

"This country has people with courage and energy, who can walk this road and leave a better country for their children, for current and future generations. At the end of this road stands a big prize - EU membership. This road and goal will ensure democracy at its best, social justice, functional rule of law. I believe in this, and in this spirit and positive thoughts, I wish you a Happy New Year and Merry Christmas to you and your families, lots of health, joy and tranquility," underlines Kovachevski while thanking those who are currently on the job, taking care of people's health and safety.
