Skopje, 9 June 2023 (MIA) - SDSM leader and Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski, before holding sessions of SDSM central and executive boards on Friday following leaders’ meeting over the constitutional amendments, said that there has been a change in the position of the opposition VMRO-DPMNE on this issue and that it is most positive as it paves the way for the citizens to finally achieve the second strategic goal - membership in the European Union.
Following the session of the executive board, SDSM is holding a session of the central board to discuss the manner and form in which the negotiations with the opposition VMRO-DPMNE will continue, in light of the new circumstances of the political scene following the meeting between SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski and VMRO-DPMNE's Hristijan Mickoski on Wednesday.
“North Macedonia will continue on its European path through the adoption of the constitutional amendments, through the formation of a government that will adopt them, then it will complete the screening process, open the chapters of the first cluster, that government can also close one or two chapters from the first cluster and then that government, or interim government, but I think it is better to say that government because it will include all political parties, will organize the next elections next year. However, in my opinion, what is most positive is that it paves the way for the citizens to finally achieve the second strategic goal that we have, which is after membership in NATO and membership in the European Union, a process which is now open and which has the support of all EU member countries,” Kovachevski said before the SDSM central board session.
