Kovachevski on Angjushev's designation: Serious allegations, institutions to proceed accordingly

Skopje, 7 December 2023 (MIA) - The State Department has presented serious allegations, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Thursday over the designation of former deputy PM and businessman Kocho Angjushev for significant corruption, findings that "our institutions must look into".

PM Kovachevski said Angjushev was never a member of SDSM but was nominated to the post by the Economic Chamber and its president.

"It must be clear that international institutions and our strategic partners, the United States being number one, make their decisions based on their own findings, but our institutions are also obligated to respond and look into all cases involving the work of any official," Kovachevski told reporters.

He added that the Government has already made a decision to amend national legislation related to individuals sanctioned by the UN and the EU.

"Regulations will also consider U.S. laws. A working group has already been set up, chaired by Deputy PM for Good Governance Policies Slavica Grkovska, also including ministers from the economic sectors, heads of security services, ministries of defense and interior," said Kovachevski.

The PM noted that EU and NATO members take U.S. sanctions very seriously and they take the same decisions regarding these individuals.
