Skopje, 1 December 2023 (MIA) - We have succeeded in turning North Macedonia into a factor of stability and security in the region. The government I lead opted for integration, not isolation, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski said at the Q&A session on Friday in the Parliament.

"We have chosen to be part of at least one billion people living with shared democratic values and contributing to global peace as a member of a military-political alliance that stands as a superior, strong, and economically dominant organization on the world stage. We have secured our safety, and now it is time for North Macedonia to rapidly pursue the path of Euro-integrations, fortify our Euro-Atlantic positions, and accomplish our longstanding strategic goals,” Kovachevski said.

Regarding the regional meeting of NATO ally leaders and discussions with high representatives of the US and the EU, PM Kovachevski underscores that the support is significant.

According to him, the years of isolation are behind us, and he assessed that this government is building the image of a modern state with one goal in mind: EU membership.

In regard to the screening process, Kovachevski said “We have quality presentations in all chapters, and the comments from the European Commission are excellent. North Macedonia has a good compliance rate within the legal framework and in the adoption of laws. The screening process report will serve as evidence with which we will strengthen our focus on the public administration reform, mechanisms for the rule of law, and legislation for combating corruption,” Kovachevski noted.

Kovachevski emphasized that the Government has not permitted domestic political disputes to overshadow the reforms necessary for aligning with EU standards or in any way obstruct the screening process.

“This is an ongoing process that will not come to a halt. Because our citizens deserve a better, more prosperous future, an improved standard of living. The future generations deserve to live in a country that is a member of the EU. Our goal is EU membership, and we have no other alternative,” he added.
