Skopje, 26 January 2024 (MIA) – Outgoing Prime Minister and SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski congratulated Jovan Mitreski’s election as Speaker of the Parliament of North Macedonia and wished him a successful term in a Facebook post on Friday.

 

 

“I am convinced that Mitreski will carry out his duty responsibly and with dedication, in the interest of the citizens and the good of the country,” wrote Kovachevski.

 

Earlier on Friday, the Parliament elected Mitreski as Speaker with 64 votes in favor and 40 against. Mitreski replaced Talat Xhaferi, who is set to lead the caretaker government which is expected to be elected by Parliament on January 28.

 

 

Mitreski, who until now acted as the whip of SDSM’s parliamentary group, will remain Speaker of Parliament until the election of a new composition of Parliament after the general elections on May 8.
