Kovachevski: List principals and MP candidates to be unveiled at congress at month's end

Skopje, 15 March 2024 (MIA) - List principals and MP candidates will be unveiled at a congress at the last week of the month, SDSM leader Dimitar Kovachevski told reporters at an event in the Hipodrom suburb in Gazi Baba municipality on Friday.

He added that the list principals will be experienced party members who have previously held top positions.

"I believe the same goes for the MP candidates in all election districts. However, I would not like to speculate at this point before we have the decisions of both the Executive Board and the Central Board, and of course the congress that will be held sometime at the onset of the last week of March," said Kovachevski.

In response to a reporter's question on why they backed down on support for the games of chance bill, and whether this means that there will be no coalition with DUI, Kovachevski said he did not suggest to the MPs as to how they should vote, but the bill was backed with 51 votes "in favor" and did not receive the required majority of 61 votes.

As regards Economy Minister Kreshnik Bekteshi's statement that "the one who loses in the elections should no longer be involved in politics", i.e. whether he will withdraw from politics if SDSM loses, Kovachevski said he did not hear such statement and therefore cannot comment on it.

"I've been in SDSM since 1994, and since 1994, SDSM has been winning in elections, SDSM has also had less successful results in elections, and this applies to all members who have been in SDSM since that time," he said.

However, he added, politicians deal with politics, they offer solutions, and it is up to the citizens how they will evaluate, assess what is in their interest and at a certain point they support one political party, while later they support another political party, or at the local level they support one political party, whereas at the state level they support another political party.
