Sveti Nikole, 7 July 2023 (MIA) - The constitutional amendments will be submitted to the Parliament in a couple of weeks and discussion will begin in line with the parliamentary procedures, said Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski on Friday.
Asked by reporters whether an agreement has been reached with VMRO-DPMNE leader Hristijan Mickoski over the constitutional amendments and if their failure would prompt early election in the fall, the PM reiterated there will be no early elections.
"There will be no elections in the fall but next year - presidential followed by parliamentary. The process of constitutional revision is not related to a government term but the country's European integration, and every political party is obligated to support the European integration process. Once reviewed by the Government, the constitutional amendments will be presented to the public and all citizens will be reassured that these are technical amendments to introduce something that is already a fact in the Constitution, namely 'parts of other nations living in the country'. Therefore, I believe it is a task of every MP and all political parties in the Parliament to support this process and ensure the continued European path through the opening of accession chapters and clusters, completion of the negotiations by 2030 and the ensuing EU membership," said PM Kovachevski.
