Kovachevski attends informal PES meeting in Prague
Skopje, 6 October 2022 (MIA) – As part of his working visit to Prague on Thursday, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovachevski took part in a meeting of the Party of European Socialists (PES) together with premiers of social democratic, socialist and democratic parties. The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell, as well as former Greek PM Alexis Tsipras also attended the meeting.
The summit took place ahead of the first meeting of the European Political Community, which will particularly focus on the economic and energy crisis and possibilities to deal with its consequences, the Government said in a press release.
The meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy Ljupcho Nikolovski, discussed the importance of nurturing social democratic values as a foundation of democratic societies, reads the press release.
“The policies adopted by this Government, in terms of developing and promoting democracy, the freedom of citizens and one society for all, are essentially social democratic, progressive policies aimed at development and progress. Thanks to the commitment and progressive policies of the Government, the Republic of North Macedonia has grown from state capture into a democracy that works exclusively in the interest of the citizens and respects their rights and freedoms,” the press release adds.
A direct result of these policies, the Government notes, is the fulfillment of the strategic goal of NATO membership, as well as the start of negotiations with the EU, which once again reaffirmed our strong commitment to be on the side of peace, stability, good neighborly relations and economic growth and development of the state by which we ensure a better life for everyone.
“Through a series of reform processes, as well as targeted measures, we provide and continue to provide support to the most vulnerable citizens at times of crisis,” the press release reads.
