Tirana, 13 August 2023 (MIA) - Korçë police has thwarted an attempt for smuggling of marijuana using a fishing boat from Albania to North Macedonia, across Lake Ohrid, and arrested four persons in the process.

Prior to transporting the marijuana to North Macedonia, the suspects stored it in a Pogradec fish farm, where two of them were employed.

Police seized 26kg of marijuana, a fishing boat, two passenger vehicles and four cell phones. Operation dubbed "Restart" has already resulted in 15 seizures of marijuana at Lake Ohrid.

The Albanian police said it is working with its Macedonian counterparts on identifying and prosecuting all individuals involved in the illicit activity.
