Jovanovski promises to fix Kichevo’s waste and sewage issues and build a dog shelter

Skopje, 29 October 2025 (MIA) - Changes are needed in Kichevo that will enable new factories and infrastructure projects, VMRO-DPMNE’s candidate for mayor of Kichevo municipality, Aleksandar Jovanovski said late Wednesday.

Speaking on Sitel TV, Jovanovski said that the municipality has seen no progress or investments for 12 years and should be led by someone dedicated to the city, not driven by personal or nationalist interests.

Jovanovski criticized the current mayor’s 12-year rule, saying Kichevo faces emigration, no investments, and growing insecurity. He called for honest, hardworking leadership focused on development, not personal or nationalist interests, adding that the city needs factories, investments, and major infrastructure projects.

He identified three main problems he would tackle as mayor, the landfill in the city center, stray dogs, and the sewage network.

“A serious issue is that the current mayor built a waste transfer station right in the heart of the city, and residents are literally being poisoned, not just by the smell. My top priority is to remove it. I already have a solution, a team, and a completed project, and we know exactly where it will be relocated,” Jovanovski said.

Jovanovski said his second priority is ensuring citizens can move freely without fear of stray dogs. He plans to build a shelter, hire professionals, and address the issue institutionally, something the current mayor did not do.

Jovanovski said his third priority is solving the sewage leakage problem, noting that in Zajas, two-thirds of the area lacks a sewage system and wastewater runs through paved streets.
