Skopje, 21 November 2024 (MIA) - Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska, on behalf of the Ministry, and French Ambassador Christophe Le Rigoleur, on behalf of the Embassy of the French Republic, signed Thursday an Annex to a Memorandum of Cooperation that will further encourage the study of the French language in the country’s educational system.

Ahead of the signing, Janevska said the Annex lists 25 schools throughout the country where meetings will be held to present the French language to parents as well as classes for schoolchildren, aimed at uncovering the opportunities provided by the study of the French language.

“It is exceptionally important for schoolchildren to be multilingual, but also to get acquainted with different cultures and spread their own worldviews. I also believe that the Republic of Macedonia’s participation in the Francophonie is immensely beneficial, since it represents an opportunity for the affirmation of our culture, our identity and our language. Macedonia and France are two European countries with joint aspirations for stronger mutual cooperation,” Janevska said.

French Ambassador Christophe Le Rigoleur said the signing of the Memorandum is testament to the deepening cooperation between the Macedonian educational institutions and the French Embassy, with the goal of promotion and affirmation of the French language in the Macedonian educational system.

“Let’s thank all professors who help promote the French language and the study of French in schools. But, also, this is excellent proof that the cooperation between the Ministry of Education and Science and the Macedonian educational institutions with the French Embassy and the French Institute in Skopje is deepening further, with a single greater goal – the promotion and affirmation of the French language in the Macedonian educational system,” the Ambassador said.
