Jancheva: SDSM city council members to vote in favor of key Skopje projects

Skopje, 29 August 2024 (MIA) – Ljubica Jancheva, SDSM member of the Council of the City of Skopje, on Thursday urged VMRO-DPMNE’s council members to put an end to the Council’s blockade by voting in favor of key projects for Skopje.

In a statement to the media, Jancheva blamed the ruling party VMRO-DPMNE and its leader Hristijan Mickoski as well as Skopje Mayor Danela Arsovska for the “chaos gripping Skopje.”

“The SDSM group of council members expects their bickering over who’s to blame to finally end today hoping they will do something for Skopje and its residents in the period to come, by the end of the term. We expect VMRO-DPMNE, which is the majority, and Arsovska to finally come to an agreement and support projects and programs in the interest of Skopje,” she stated.

Jancheva said she expected VMRO-DPMNE council members to back programs deemed necessary for the functioning of the capital, including procurement of new eco-friendly buses, free public transportation, the BRT transport, the environment protection program, local economic development program, etc.

Acting as a constructive opposition, the SDSM group of council members will vote in favor of all programs and projects, she announced.

On Thursday, the Council of the City of Skopje is holding a session in which the council members are expected to back the motion on employment of nearly 120 people in the municipal hygiene enterprise and pass a decision of redistributing funds for the JSP public transportation company.

On August 22, Mayor Danela Arsovska in a coordination meeting with the council members presented a plan ending the crisis in Skopje involving the public transportation and waste collection.
