Skopje, 31 December 2024 (MIA) — Jana and Luka are the No. 1 girl and boy names of 2024, according to official statistics released Tuesday.

According to the national Register Office that holds records of births, marriages and deaths, other popular names given to newborn girls this year, besides Jana, were Hana, Sofia, Dua, Ana, Mila, Jovana and Mia.

The most popular boy names, after Luka, were Damjan, Matej, Marko, Jakov, Mihail, David, Jovan, Petar, Mateo, Aleksej and Andrej.

According to latest figures released by the State Statistical Office, the number of live births in the country this year, as of September 2024, was 11,694 — a drop compared with the same period of 2023. mr/
