Tel Aviv/Gaza, 16 November 2023 (dpa/MIA) - The Israeli army has gained control of the western part of Gaza City, Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant said.

"The next phase has begun," Gallant said on Thursday.

The defence minister did not specify what this phase of the Gaza war would look like. "The armed forces are proceeding with precision and determination."

Meanwhile, the army had made "significant finds" in the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip, Gallant continued.

The operation in the al-Shifa hospital is ongoing, he said. Earlier, a military official had reported that the army had found Hamas command and control centres inside the hospital.

The army also said it discovered information and film material showing hostages on computers and other equipment in the al-Shifa hospital. Weapons and intelligence material were also apparently found.

The information could not be independently verified.
