Tehran, 6 March 2023 (dpa/MIA) – Iranian media have reported more than 2,400 cases of poisoning at the country's schools since November, an evaluation of media reports up to early March shows.
There are no official figures on the poisoning cases, which have largely targeted girls' schools. The Iranian government sees targeted attacks behind the outbreak.
According to the media reports, more than 100 schools have been affected since the outbreak began in November, although observers believe the actual number could be higher.
Schoolgirls have been treated in hospitals across the country, with doctors saying that they could have been poisoned with gas. Parents have expressed outrage at the lack of an official explanation.
