Iran sends EU new proposal in nuclear deal talks
Tehran, 2 September 2022 (dpa/MIA) - Iran has sent a new proposal to the European Union as efforts continue to revive the 2015 nuclear agreement and end years of disputes.
"We have carefully considered the answer from the US to the EU's compromise proposal and conveyed our stance on the matter to the EU," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said on Friday.
He did not give any further details, according to multiple media outlets that reported his comments.
He called the proposal "constructive" and said its goal was to reach a final agreement.
The Iran nuclear deal set controls on Iran's nuclear programme in exchange for sanctions relief.
The initial deal was struck in 2015, but fell apart a few years later during the US presidency of Donald Trump, who pulled out of the deal.
EU negotiators have said a new version of the deal has been worked out and is only awaiting a yes or no from both sides.
The parties to the agreement are Iran, the EU, Germany and the five UN Security Council veto powers: the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China.
The US and Iran had already responded previously to a compromise proposal from EU foreign affairs chief Josep Borrell.
