Inquiry committee into Tetovo hospital fire after probe is completed, says Xhaferi
Skopje, 28 September 2021 (MIA) – Parliament Speaker Talat Xhaferi says the motion on setting up an inquiry committee in Parliament to probe the fire in a Tetovo modular hospital, killing 14 people, has been filed too early.
According to him, an inquiry committee should be established once investigators and judicial bodies have completed the investigation.
“An inquiry committee cannot look into matters that fall under the jurisdiction of investigators and judicial bodies. Inquiry committees before, including those established to look into the Gostivar events and Sopot, had been set up post festum. According to the rules of procedures, Parliament has no judicial and investigative jurisdiction. After the relevant institutions reveal their findings, Parliament can establish an inquiry committee to uphold or reject the findings of these bodies,” Xhaferi told a press briefing on Tuesday.
Following the Tetovo modular hospital fire, the opposition filed a motion in Parliament requesting an inquiry committee. The motion was returned because it was filed without the constitutional name of the country.
