Inflation down 0.7% in January: statistics

Skopje, 13 February 2026 (MIA) - Inflation measured through the Consumer Price Index in January 2026, compared to December 2025 was – 0.7%, the State Statistical Office said on Friday. 

The Consumer Price Index in January 2026, compared to January 2025, increased by 3.2% 

The Retail Price Index in January 2026 compared to December 2025 decreased by 2.7%, whereas compared to January 2025 the Retail Price Index increased by 1.2%.  

A decrease in inflation in January 2026, compared to December 2025, is the result of the decrease in the Consumer Price Index in the following groups: Transport by 9.3%, Information and Communication by 1.6%, Recreation, sport and culture by 1.5%, Clothing and footwear by 1.2%, Personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services by 0.5%.

In January 2026, compared to December 2025, an increase in the Consumer Price Index was registered in the following groups: Furnishings, household equipment and routine household maintenance, Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels by 1.0%, Restaurants and accommodation services by 0.7%, Education services, Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics by 0.1%.

The Consumer Price Index in the groups Insurance and financial services, Health, Food and non-alcoholic beverages remained at the same level as in the previous month.

The State Statistical Office noted that due to the entry into the directly applicable EU regulations and in accordance with Eurostat’s recommendations, as of January 2026, the Consumer Price Indices and the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices are compiled according to the European Classification of Individual Consumption According to Purpose, ECOICOP version 2 aligned with the United Nations UN COICOP 2018 classification, without changes in the methodological approach of the index calculation.
