IMF: Energy prices should retreat early next year
New York, 12 October 2021 (MIA) – Energy prices, which have soared in recent days, are likely to remain high in the coming months but will begin to retreat by early 2022, said International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief economist Gita Gopinath. Although energy prices “will be elevated” for the next couple of months, “we expect that to come back down by the end of the first quarter next year and into the second quarter,” Gopinath said. “Once we get past the winter months, we’ll be in a better place. We expect them to come back down,” she added.
