Hungary supports a U.S. President who promotes peace, says PM

Ohrid, 27 September 2024 (MIA) - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said Friday in Ohrid that the country's official policy favors a strong President of the United States who promotes world peace.

PM Orban told a press conference with Macedonian counterpart Hristijan Mickoski that Hungary has openly supported the policies of former U.S. President Donald Trump since 2015-2016.

He said Hungary does not intend to interfere in U.S. internal affairs but highlighted Washington's role as one of the key players in world politics and global peace.

"If the U.S. is headed by a president who wants war, then there will be war in the world. If the U.S. has a president who is against war, then there will be no war. When there is a strong president in Washington, there will be no war. Experience has shown that candidate Trump is on the side of peace. Hungary would like to see the U.S. be headed by a president who promotes world peace," noted Orban.

The Hungarian PM also referred to a "crisis in the western political elite".

"The western elite is encapsulated in a small circle and loses its positions on the global political stage. An elite has been created in the western world lacking fresh blood, one that cannot cope with the future challenges unless it changes," said Orban.

He added that the challenges of the new times call for "fresh blood in transatlantic policies", with Hungary ready to support any dynamics that would bring something new.
