Skopje, 1 September 2025 (MIA) - The National Security Agency (NSA) marked the anniversary of its establishment at an event on Monday afternoon. Agency head Bojan Hristovski vowed they will not give up on their mission of ensuring the security of the country and its citizens.

In a statement to the media, Hristovski said that over the past year since he became director of the institution, they have worked on several areas, starting with building IT infrastructure, strengthening personnel, and dismantling plans for terrorist activities by eliminating a terrorist group within the country.

"I must emphasize that our partners, alongside the media, are also the citizens, and together we should all contribute to collective security. A secure state, secure citizens is our mission, and that is what we strive for, we will not give up until we achieve it," Hristovski said.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, who attended the event, said the Agency has been successfully consolidated over the past year, noting that the initial situation was concerning. In the coming period, he said he expects even better results aimed at greater security for both the country and its citizens.

"The situation we encountered was, I wouldn’t say alarming, but there was no situation at all. We didn’t start from zero, we had destroyed foundations and began from a deep minus. But in a very short time, the situation was consolidated. I expect results and greater security for both Macedonia and its citizens. In the past period, many successful operations have been carried out, some independently, others with our strategic partners. I want to express my gratitude to the director for everything he has done over the past year, he successfully consolidated the Agency. We are working on future plans to reform, restructure, and reposition the country’s security system. It’s a dynamic process because the subject itself is dynamic and requires continuous adaptation," Mickoski said.

The National Security Agency is an independent body within the state administration, established with the purpose of protecting the national security of the country, namely, safeguarding its independence, sovereignty, constitutional order, and the fundamental rights and freedoms of individuals and citizens guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as other matters of interest to the national security of the state.

Hristovski was appointed head of the NSA in October 2024. He is the third person to head the Agency since its establishment.
