History commission to hold two-day meeting, discuss Middle Ages, Gjorgjiev tells MIA
Skopje, 29 March 2022 (MIA) – The joint Macedonian-Bulgarian commission on historical and educational issues is set to hold a meeting on Thursday and Friday, and the agenda includes remarks from the Bulgarian side on the Middle Ages in Macedonian 7th grade history textbooks, co-chair of the joint commission with Bulgaria, Dragi Gjorgjiev, told MIA. He said the work of the commission was taking place in a positive atmosphere, adding that if it continues that way, bridging of positions could take place. As regards the Goce Delchev issue, which is discussed in terms of joint commemoration, Gjorgjiev told MIA it would also be tackled during the upcoming talks if it can fit into the agenda. Bulgarian Prime Minister Kiril Petkov said Monday he has been informed by the history commission that progress has been made over important historical figures in talks with Skopje and on overcoming differences. “I have been informed by the history commission that we have made progress on those issues in a constructive and realistic way that opens the way to accelerating our talks. Of course, me and my coalition partners will first have to receive a full report from the [history] commission but things will move swiftly once we get that report,” Petkov said.
