Skopje, 16 July 2024 (MIA) – Sunny and very hot day ahead, with a few scattered clouds in the afternoon. Variable light to moderate winds are expected.

Lows will range from 13C to 22C and highs between 36C and 43C. The UV index is 10.

According to the National Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) forecast, the weather will remain sunny and extremely hot in the coming days, with maximum temperatures above 30°C everywhere and possibly exceeding 40°C in some areas. The orange level heat warning will be in place until the end of the work week.

“Local afternoon rain showers, thunderstorms, and stronger winds are expected on Friday and through the weekend, with a gradual decrease in daytime temperatures,” according to the Hydrometeorological Service.

The Institute for Public Health recommends that citizens during these extremely hot days should carry a water bottle, wear light, bright, and comfortable clothing, take showers with cooler or lukewarm water when feeling hot, use a hat, cap, or umbrella for protection, get enough sleep, eat fruits and salads, and avoid alcohol, coffee, tea, and hot, spicy, and salty foods that can cause dehydration.

The Government recommends that the most vulnerable groups of the population, such as pregnant women and persons over the age of 60, be released from work duties. Also, in childcare facilities, kindergartens, physical activity should not be practiced and children should not be taken outdoors between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
