Heavy snowfall causes massive power cuts in Bosnia-Herzegovina

Belgrade, 24 December 2024 (dpa/MIA) - Heavy snowfall has led to massive power cuts in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

On Monday afternoon, 47,000 households were still without electricity, the electricity supplier Elektroprivreda BiH announced on its website.

Earlier, as many as 180,000 households had been cut off, but in most cases the company was able to restore the electricity supply.

Northern and central Bosnia were particularly affected by the power cuts, including the towns of Zenica, Bihac and Gradacac.

In Gradacac alone, 50 centimetres of fresh snow fell within a very short space of time, according to the weather service BH Meteo.

In the canton of Una-Sana, the authorities cancelled school lessons.
