Skopje, 7 April 2024 (MIA) - In a message on occasion of World Health Day, Health Minister Ilir Demiri said since he assumed his post, the Ministry has been focused on strengthening the health system.

“North Macedonia is the first Western Balkan country to have officially adopted the National Action Plan for Health Security, in cooperation with the World Health Organization, which is an important step forward in strengthening our commitment to health protection and the welfare of our citizens,” Demiri said.

He stressed that the Ministry he is leading is focused on prevention and early discovery of diseases. Demiri also noted that six new medications for rare diseases were introduced last year, and cystic fibrosis patients received medication for the first time.

“We are investing in new medical equipment, and we have doubled the budget for this purpose, we are also improving the conditions in public health institutions. We will continue to work with dedication in the coming period as well, with the goal of improving the working conditions for health workers in public healthcare, as well as in the interest of all patients in the country. Happy World Health Day,” Health Minister Demiri said.
