Head of Norwegian Armed Forces visits North Macedonia
Skopje, 31 May 2022 (MIA) – Chief of the General Staff of the Army of North Macedonia, Lieutenant General Vasko Gjurchinovski, welcomed with military honors on Tuesday the Head of the Norwegian Armed Forces, General Eirik Kristoffersen. Gjurchinovski and Kristoffersen held a working meeting, discussing about the excellent bilateral cooperation between the two armies, the Ministry of Defense said in a press release. “General Gjurchinovski expressed satisfaction with the cooperation so far, which is constantly maintained as a high level, particularly in terms of the joint participation in the peace operations ISAF and Decisive Strike in Afghanistan, as well as the joint exercise activities. In addition, General Gjurchinovski briefed his counterpart on the process of transformation of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia,” reads the press release. General Kristoffersen also met with Deputy Defense Minister Bashkim Hasani. “Hasani thanked for the Norwegian support and the many joint projects of the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia and the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Norway. He voiced confidence that cooperation between the two armies and the two countries will further intensify in the future,” the press release adds. In addition, the General Staff of the Army presented before the delegation of the Norwegian Armed Forces the degree of transformation and reforms in the Army, contribution to peace-keeping missions, the capacities of the Krivolak army field in terms of conducting exercise activities, as well as participation in joint activities. Gjurchinovski and Kristoffersen attended earlier on Tuesday an open event of the National Guard and the Royal Guard of Norway which took place at the Macedonia Square, and on Tuesday evening the Royal Norwegian Guards Band will give a concert at the National Philharmonics. Later in the day, General Kristoffersen will also meet with President and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Stevo Pendarovski.
