Grkovska - Rogkakou: Assessing risks of corruption, strengthening integrity key in prevention

Skopje, 3 November 2023 (MIA) - Assessing the risks of corruption and strengthening integrity are key in the prevention of corruption, concurred Deputy PM for Good Governance Policies Slavica Grkovska and Greek National Transparency Authority Deputy Governor, Alexandra Rogkakou, at a working meeting in Athens on Friday. 

 

"The National Transparency Authority, which is the main anti-corruption body in Greece's system, focuses on detection, prevention and raising awareness of corruption. Talks focused on the mechanisms that ensure greater cooperation and commitment of the institutions in the implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan, as well as the implementation of the audit recommendations," reads the press release. 

 

 

Deputy PM Grkovska pointed out that efficiency in dealing with corruption can only be ensured through strong mechanisms and appropriate punishments. In that sense, Deputy Governor Rogkakou noted that the National Transparency Authority pays special attention to the management of corruption risks, as well as strengthening integrity, which is key in the area of ​​prevention.

 

Interlocutors also exchanged experiences regarding gifting policies for office holders, given the fact that the Office for Good Governance Policies is working on the preparation of guidelines in terms of reporting gifts received, which are expected to be adopted in the coming period.

 

In addition, participants in the meeting expressed interest in the trainings on compliance with the Code of Ethical Conduct of members of the government and public officials elected and appointed by the Government, which are carried out by the Office for Good Governance Policies. 

 

Grkovska thanked Rogkakou for her contribution in the establishment of the South-East Europe Good Governance and Anti-Corruption Women Leaders Forum. 

 

"The forum, which was established on the initiative of Deputy PM Grkovska, is an important platform for the exchange of experience, ideas and knowledge of women in the region who are actively involved in preventing and dealing with corruption," reads the press release.

 

In addition, Rogkakou formally joined the forum on Friday by signing the declaration. The two agreed that such communication is a significant support for all women in the region working in this area, adding that it is necessary to intensify the communication in the coming period.
