Grkovska: Models for positive changes in implementation of good governance principles defined in cooperation with CoE
Skopje, 28 February 2023 (MIA) - Deputy PM in charge of Good Governance Policies, Slavica Grkovska, alongside the representatives and experts from the Council of Europe (CoE), organized a two-day workshop to define the mechanisms for creating a system in order to more substantially and completely implement the principles of good governance, which are an important prerequisite for building an efficient system for services to citizens.
Representatives of Parliament, Ministry of Local Self-Government, Ministry of Information Society and Administration, association of the units of local self-government, the State Audit Office and the academic community also attended the workshop on Tuesday aimed at ensuring a wider consensus in the implementation of the priorities, Grkovska’s Office said in a press release.

The whole process is carried out transparently together with the civil sector, which has established itself as the main partner in the creation of policies for good governance.

Deputy PM Grkovska underscored the key principles for good governance, such as transparency, accountability, efficiency, rule of law, inclusiveness and openness of institutions towards citizens.

“These principles are of exceptional importance in order to build a system that will be a service to the citizens, and at the same time will enable the progress and prosperity of the society, by eliminating corruption. Through these principles, the control over the spending of public funds will be increased, the way in which the policies for good governance are created, but to influence how decisions are made by the institutions. All this will become a reality if a system is set up through which public sector employees will become aware that their obligation is to provide professional, fast and quality service to citizens,” reads the press release.

That is why, through the screening that is being conducted with the Council of Europe, specific recommendations will be defined that will show the direction of how to create such a system that will be a long-term and effective service for citizens.

Workshop participants underlined that international financial aid is important, but it is even more important to make radical changes in the institutions, in the way they function and their attitude towards the citizens.

“The ultimate goal of building a good governance system is to reduce the corruption for which we need to have integrity in administration. In view of this, investments in human capital, as well as investments in the digital transformation of society are of major importance,” reads the press release.
