Grkovska: Digitization and cybersecurity policies should be evidence-based with emphasis on effectiveness and progress indicators

Skopje, 29 November 2023 (MIA) - Deputy Prime Minister in charge of good governance policies, Slavica Grkovska, took part in a panel discussion ‘Driving impact: making the case for better evaluation of cyber capacity building’ as part of the Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building 2023 held in Accra, Ghana.

Presenting the National Concept for Digital Transformation, Grkovska emphasized that its goal is to transform North Macedonia into a technologically advanced and inclusive society. In the preparation and implementation of policies stemming from the concept, planning based on evidence is crucial, as well as measuring effectiveness and progress, government said in a press release.

“At its core, there are several critical aspects: developing policies based on data and evidence, establishing key standards in cyberspace for cybersecurity, learning from global mistakes, and effectively communicating issues related to digitization, cybersecurity, and cyber resilience to foster trust among citizens in the system,” Grkovska noted.

Cybersecurity, she added, is the foundation on which we build trust in our digital systems and protect the well-being of our citizens, as well as their privacy.

Grkovska highlighted, "Cybersecurity serves as the silent guardian of our systems, data, and privacy," emphasizing that cybersecurity should be regarded as an investment rather than an expense.

In conclusion of the panel discussion, Deputy Prime Minister Grkovska emphasized the importance of effectively communicating the building of cyber capacities in a society and constructing a narrative that inspires action, ensuring a secure and resilient digital landscape for future generations, reads the press release.
