Gov't and WHO sign Country Cooperation Strategy for 2026-2030

Skopje, 1 December 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski, Minister of Health Azir Aliu, and the Representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) and Head of Country Office, Akeem Ali, signed on Monday a five-year Cooperation Strategy between the Government and the WHO for 2026-2030.

WHO Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge delivered an online address at the event, the Health Ministry said in a press release.

"Today marks a new chapter in our cooperation with the World Health Organization, as we jointly signed our first five-year Cooperation Strategy - a document created together with all institutions and partners, that sets a roadmap for reforms in healthcare until 2030. The strategy focuses on modernization of primary healthcare, full digital transformation, promoting maternal and child healthcare, environmental health and climate resilience, in line with the Government's "green agenda". This strategy also covers the protection of vulnerable groups, human resource planning in healthcare, public health, health security and better response in crisis situations. The strategy provides us with a clear plan, partnership and support for the joint implementation of key reforms," Minister Aliu said after Monday's signing ceremony.

Aliu highlighted the excellent intersectoral cooperation and support from other sectors. This Strategy, he added, unites the entire government system around the goals of health and well-being of the population.

"I would especially like to thank the WHO and all ministries and partners for their contribution. With this Strategy, we are laying the foundation for stronger, more modern and more equitable healthcare for all citizens. This symbolically reaffirms the strong political will, national commitment, and partnership between the Government and the WHO in implementing key health reforms," Aliu stressed.
