Government approves financing of solar photovoltaic plants through EBRD
Skopje, 14 September 2021 (MIA) – The Government endorsed Tuesday the draft-law on North Macedonia guarantee for its obligations regarding the loan agreement for financing of the Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM) project over transition to photovoltaics with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). The project aims to help the country achieve European norms on greenhouse gas emissions and environmental goals and commitments by the Republic of North Macedonia. Solar photovoltaic plants Oslomej 2 (10MW) and Bitola (20MW) are set to reduce the share of electricity production from thermal power plants and protect the environment, the Government said in a press release. The investment, estimated at EUR 25 million, will also open new jobs in the region. The project is to be funded through an EBRD loan and an EUR 5 million grant from the EU Western Balkans Investment Framework (WBIF), reads the press release.
