Gjorgjievski presents green vision for Skopje - construction of a 300,000 sqm Lepenec megapark, Vardarishte megapark, green corridors

Skopje, 6 October 2025 (MIA) – VMRO-DPMNE candidate for Skopje mayor, Orce Gjorgjievski, speaking at a press conference on Monday as part of the local election campagn, presented a project for the construction of a megapark along the Lepenec River, to cover an area of over 300,000 square meters.

"The construction of the Lepenec megapark will transform this area into a modern green space arranged according to European standards. The park will stretch along the Lepenec River, between Bardovci - Zlokukjani - Dame Gruev, and will cover an area of over 300,000 square meters. It will be the first park to connect most of Skopje's municipalities, and it will be intended for all citizens of Skopje, not just the residents of Karposh. We will create a new urban oasis for recreation, sports, and family activities, bringing life back to this forgotten urban fabric," said Gjorgjievski.

He added that green corridors with pedestrian and bicycle paths will also be created along the Lepenec River, connecting settlements, parks and public institutions.

"In parallel, we plan to establish green corridors along the entire length of the Lepenec River with pedestrian and bicycle paths that will connect settlements, parks, as well as public institutions. This project will integrate Lepenec into the life of the city and turn it into a symbol of urban connectivity, a clean environment and, above all, civic pride," Gjorgjievski said.

The vision for a green Skopje, he pointed out, will not stop with these projects. He noted that projects are also planned for the construction of a megapark at the site of the current illegal landfill Vardarishte, a megapark along the Hristijan Todorovski - Karposh boulevard, as well as a city forest Kisela Voda's Rasadnik.

"We also plan a megapark Vardarishte, to turn a former landfill into a European example of green reclamation. A city forest in Kisela Voda's Rasadnik, as the largest green project in the urban area. Another megapark along the Hristijan Todorovski Karposh boulevard, the first green corridor of this scale in Butel, as well as a Skopje Green Archipelago project, which will create 50 new neighbourhood parks throughout all parts of our capital," Gjorgjievski pointed out.

In addition, he announced complete renovation of Skopje's City Park and Gazi Baba's Nature Park, which, he noted, are the two greatest ecological symbols of the city.

He noted the need for accelerated completion of the Momin Potok interchange, which, according to him, would unblock one of the busiest traffic intersections in Skopje and enable the connection of the northwestern part of Skopje with the central industrial zones.

He stressed that the projects will bring less traffic congestion, better access for both residents and emergency medical vehicles, better mobility and more safety.

VMRO-DPMNE mayoral candidate in the Municipality of Karposh, Sotir Lukrovski, said the project for the construction of the Lepenec megapark is the largest green initiative in the history of the municipality and includes the construction of a botanical garden, a golf course, as well as go-karting tracks.

"A botanical garden is also included in the plan, with indigenous tropical and Mediterranean trees, where people can relax, but it will also be used for educational purposes, i.e., by scanning "QR" codes, everyone will be able to learn new things... Go-karting tracks with European standards are also included in the plan. We hope that we will manage to bring a European championship to Karposh, a golf course, and many other rich contents," said Lukrovski.
