Skopje, 15 September 2023 (MIA) — Macedonian multimedia artist Gjorgji Mitrevski's "Hymn amid the Ruins" exhibition will open at Skopje's Parc de la Francophonie. According to organizers, the art show aims to encourage visitors to question their perception of nudity.
Instead of treating the body as an object and commodity, "Hymn amid the Ruins" recalls ancient Greek art, where nudes were painted on vases, and the naked body symbolized beauty, nobility and fertility, organizers say.
"Visitors will be provided with a separate space to enable the personal experience of stripping. All interested visitors will have the opportunity to articulate content with their body in front of a photographic lens. The only Polaroid print will be, of course, for their eyes only," organizers note.
Gjorgji Mitrevski is a photographer and a screen print, animation and collage artist. He has had solo exhibitions in Bosnia, Germany, France, China and the USA.
The exhibition is financially supported by the Ministry of Culture, with logistical support from the Municipality of Centar. mr/
