Germany ice hockey team player Eder dies at 26 after cancer

Berlin, 29 January 2025 (dpa) — Germany ice hockey national team player Tobias Eder has died at the age of 26 due to complications from a cancer, his Eisbären Berlin team said on Wednesday, citing Eder's family.

“We are shocked, deeply saddened and stunned,” his team wrote on Instagram. “Tobi unfortunately didn't win his toughest battle. It's impossible to find the right words right now.”

Eder was diagnosed with a malignant tumor during a medical examination at the Eisbären Berlin last summer, just a few weeks after his participation in the World Cup in the Czech Republic.

Eder had been playing in Berlin since 2023 after stints at Red Bull Munich and Düsseldorfer EG. He played 27 games for the Germany national team.
