German vaccine body recommends under 30s use only Pfizer/BioNTech
Berlin, 10 November 2021 (dpa/MIA) - Germany's vaccine advisory body recommended on Wednesday that people aged 30 and younger should only be vaccinated against Covid-19 using the Pfizer/BioNTech jab.
The Pfizer/BioNTech preparation showed a lower incidence of heart inflammation for the age group as compared to the Moderna shot, an analysis by the Standing Committee on Vaccination (STIKO) found.
The recommendation to use Pfizer/BioNTech on younger people applies to boosters, even if the first shots were carried out using a different brand.
The committee also said that pregnant women, regardless of age, should be inoculated using Pfizer/BioNTech.
The body's draft recommendation will now go to the German states and another group of experts for examination and, possibly, revision.
