German minister: BiH situation threatens European peace

Sarajevo, 1 December 2021 (MIA) - The current situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) is frustrating and threatens the peace and stability in Europe, German Minister of State for Europe Michael Roth has stated ahead of his visit to Sarajevo.

Secession calls to weaken the country by withdrawing from state institutions are irresponsible and unacceptable, said a press release, adding that they are drawing the attention away from the real tasks of political responsibility, which are to implement the necessary reforms to get closer to the European Union. Urgent progress in this area is needed in interest of the citizens of the country and its economic development.

Roth said that Germany supports the citizens of BiH strongly, who are dedicated to the democratic, legal, European future of the country.

Roth will stay in BiH until December 2 and he will meet with BiH Foreign Minister Bisera Turkovic, members of the BiH presidency, the high representative of the BiH international community Christian Schmidt, as well as representatives of the civil society.

They will discuss the current political situation and BiH’s European perspective. Roth will also meet with members of the BiH Parliamentary Assembly to talk about the necessary reforms to progress towards the path to the EU, and the consequences of the current political blockade. dk/ba/
