GERB, VMRO-BNM lead Bulgarian vote in North Macedonia
Skopje, 3 October 2022 (MIA) – Former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov’s party GERB and VMRO-BNM, led by Krasimir Karakachanov, won the most votes from the Bulgarian citizens in North Macedonia at Sunday's the early parliamentary elections in Bulgaria. Four hundred and sixty-one people turned out to vote at the seven polling places in North Macedonia, with the largest turnout, 172, at the polling place in the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopje. At the polling stations in North Macedonia, GERB won 127 votes, while VMRO-BNM 91, Kiril Petkov’s party Continue the Change received 69 votes, Democratic Bulgaria 38, Revival 30, while 22 people voted for Slavi Trifonov’s There is Such a People. According to the latest results from the Bulgarian Central Election Commission, as reported by BTA, out of a total 99.40 percent processed ballots, the coalition of GERB and the Union of Democratic Forces (GERB-UDF) received the most votes – 25.37 percent or 632.097 votes. Continue the Change is in second place with 20.21 percent of the vote (503.549), followed by Movement for Rights and Freedoms with 13.66 percent (340.211 votes), Revival with 10.17 percent (253.321 votes), the coalition BSP for Bulgaria led by the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) with 9.32 percent (232.101 votes) and the Democratic Bulgaria bloc with 7.46 percent of the vote (185.753). Bulgarian Rise, led by former technical Prime Minister Janev and Trifonov's There is Such a People failed to clear the five percent electoral threshold, receiving 4.64 percent (115.588) and 3.83 (95.505) percent of the votes respectively. The option “None of the above” was chosen by 87.378 voters. Twenty-nine parties and coalitions participated in the fourth parliamentary elections held in Bulgaria in the last 18 months, 6.600.000 people had the right to vote. Apart from Bulgaria, Bulgarians could also vote at 755 polling stations in 62 countries around the world. ad/ba/
