French Presidency proposes start of North Macedonia negotiations, Bulgarian demands to be met: paper
Sofia, 17 June 2022 (MIA) - Sofia daily Dnevnik reads that the French EU Presidency has offered member-states a formula for the start of the North Macedonia accession negotiations that seems to meet the Bulgarian demands, leading to its consent and removal of the veto, MIA reports from Sofia. According to the French formula, the negotiating process with North Macedonia is to begin once the country’s constitution is amended by incorporating “citizens living in the country who are part of other nations, including Bulgarians.” The paper reads this will be “immediately followed by the first intergovernmental conference that effectively launches the process of membership negotiations.”
