Paris, 2 July 2023 (dpa/MIA) - French police arrested at least 719 people on Saturday night during further rioting about police brutality, according to an initial Interior Ministry assessment on Sunday morning.
The ministry tweet also noted that 45 police officers were injured in the riots.
Thanks to the deployment of 45,000 police officers and thousands of firefighters, it was a "calmer night" than the previous day, the tweet said.
The riots were triggered by the death of a 17-year-old driver, Nahel, during a traffic check.
The policeman suspected of killing the teen has been remanded in custody and faces a preliminary investigation for manslaughter.
