Four injured in Kochani fire arrive in Belgium for medical care

Brussels, 19 March 2025 (MIA) — Four people injured in the March 16 fire in Kochani have arrived in Belgium for medical treatment, MIA's Brussels correspondent reports.

The burn victims have been hospitalized in four different hospitals in the cities of Brussels, Antwerp, Liège and Charleroi, according to the Macedonian Embassy in Belgium.

They were flown to Belgium on a special aircraft of the Romanian Armed Forces, which also transported four other people injured in the fire to the Netherlands for treatment.

"Antonija, Maja, Petar and Dragoljub have arrived in Belgium," Macedonian Ambassador to Belgium Metodija Belevski said, thanking the Belgian government, especially their Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for their help and Romania and the EU for organizing the Skopje to Brussels flight.

"Tomorrow is a new day, new hope for our young fellow citizens," Belevski added, wishing them a speedy recovery.

Meanwhile, a large number of Macedonians living in Belgium have offered free accommodation and transportation to the family members of the injured.

Additionally, the embassy has provided translators to help the burn patients and their relatives communicate with the Belgian medical staff.

The embassy has also opened a book of condolences for Macedonian nationals as well as foreign citizens and diplomatic representatives to leave messages of sympathy for the bereaved by the Kochani tragedy.

The embassy in Brussels is open to visitors leaving condolence messages this week every workday from 10 am to noon and from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, except Friday, when the book of condolences can be signed from 10 am to noon. mr/
