Skopje, 14 September 2025 (MIA) - Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski urged citizens on Sunday to follow the recommendations from institutions following the Trubarevo fire, adding the four persons have been detained in connection to the blaze.

"Four have been detained and the investigation is ongoing. The Ministry of Interior and the Prosecutor's Office will provide more details," PM Mickoski told reporters during a visit to the site of a warehouse for waste recycling, where a fire broke out yesterday.

The PM said those residing in the fire perimeter will be evacuated and taken care of.

"The latest measurements by the Army and the Public Health Institute have shown there is certain pollution but not a significant one. This relates to the 100-meter perimeter," said Mickoski. 

Asked if he would seek responsibility from Deputy PM and Environment Minister Izet Mexhiti after reports emerged that he attended election-related events after the fire broke out, Mickoski said they were in constant communication and all measures have been undertaken.

"I was in communication with Mexhiti the entire time, as well as with all other ministers and the crisis management steering committee, so all measures were undertaken yesterday, as will be the case today and in the coming days. Let's bring down tensions, there is no need to panic, the situation is under control," said Mickoski.

According to him, such facilities will be under greater scrutiny in the future, using the resources at disposal.

"This would not happen if we had drones for this purpose. Unfortunately, the state was destroyed to the core over the past seven years," said Mickoski.

Regarding the Government's efforts for a better waste management system, the PM said a call for a regional landfill in the country's southeast has been issued, the procedure for such a landfill in the southwest has been launched, whereas "the process of building treatment stations in Bitola, Tetovo and Skopje is moving forward".
