Former ESM head Vasko Stefanov detained over suspected crimes in power plants
- The former head of Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM), Vasko Stefanov, was detained Tuesday at the Tabanovce border crossing, the Interior Ministry told MIA.
Skopje, 10 December 2024 (MIA) - The former head of Power Plants of North Macedonia (ESM), Vasko Stefanov, was detained Tuesday at the Tabanovce border crossing, the Interior Ministry told MIA.
Stefanov is one of the suspects in an operation carried out by the Interior Ministry and the Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Corruption, related to procurement of additives for mining-energy complex (REK) Bitola and thermal power plant (TEC) Oslomej and obtaining illegal assets of up to EUR 6.5 million.
As part of the operation, searches were carried out on Tuesday in several locations in Bitola, Negotino, Kichevo, Veles and Skopje. The police said they secured material evidence and seized EUR 130.000.
Charges have been filed against 23 individuals and two legal entities.
