Fire brigade avoids second explosion at chemical site in Leverkusen

Fire brigade avoids second explosion at chemical site in Leverkusen
After the explosion of a tank containing solvents at a chemicals plant in the western German city of Leverkusen, a second one was almost in risk of detonating, but the fire brigade was able to avert the danger, according to a state official. The tank contained 100,000 litres of highly flammable, toxic waste materials, North Rhine Westphalia Interior Minister Herbert Reul said, adding that 300 firefighters were deployed. The explosion at the Buerrig waste product disposal facility, operated by the Currenta company, killed one person and injured 31 people, while four are still missing. It has not yet been possible to start a probe into the cause of the explosion.
