FinMin meets IFC representatives, discuss green transition and private sector support

Skopje, 13 December 2023 (MIA) - The possibility of expanding the activities of the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation (IFC) in North Macedonia by financing projects from the energy sector, primarily renewable energy sources and support for the green transition plan and the private sector, was the focus of the meeting between Finance Minister Fatmir Besimi, IFC’s Regional Director for Central and Eastern Europe, Rana Karadsheh Haddad, and Regional Manager for the Western Balkans, Nicolas Marquier, the Finance Ministry said on Wednesday.

"There are a lot of opportunities for increasing the activity of this international cooperation in implementing our plans for decarbonisation and green transition in North Macedonia. IFC shows interest in financing projects on energy and renewable energy sources, such as solar energy production, and decarbonisation," said Minister Besimi.

Besimi added they expect to develop an investment plan with IFC for the realization of projects in the energy sector through a USD 85 million support from the Climate Investment Funds (CIF).

Interlocutors noted that IFC's support opens big potential in targeting the private sector, which is of great interest to Macedonian companies, as well as support for attracting more foreign investments, reads the press release.
