Skopje, 10 October 2023 (MIA) – Basic food products such as cheese, lutenica, beetroot, chili peppers, waffles, wafers, and red peppers, are set to continue to be taxed at a preferential rate of five percent, said the Ministry of Finance in a press release Tuesday, after announcing a correction to the list of food products with a preferential VAT rate.
The preferential rate of five percent will also continue to apply to frozen dough, baby food, baby formula, food supplements for weakened immunity, and herbal teas.
The corrections will be valid as of October 13.
“The Ministry of Finance and the Government are in constant communication with the business community when it comes to the creation and implementation of policies, and remain open for suggestions and recommendations,” said the press release.
According to the Ministry, the country has the lowest VAT rates (regular and preferential) and all food products are taxed with a preferential VAT rate.
“The majority of these products are taxed with the lowest preferential rate of five percent, i.e., the lowest preferential VAT rate in the country applies to more than 1650 food products, while an additional 950 food products are also taxed at a preferential rate,” said the Ministry.
