Film on LGBTQIA+ cinematography to open Swedish Documentary Week

Skopje, 10 August 2023 (MIA) — Cinematheque on Thursday will screen Eva Belling's documentary "Prejudice & Pride: Swedish Film Queer" (2022), which will open Swedish Documentary Week organized together with the Embassy of Sweden.

Through Aug. 15, Cinematheque will show five Swedish documentaries including Thomas Jackson's "Historjá - Stygn för Sápmi" (2022) on Friday and Gorki Glaser-Müller's "Children of the Enemy" (2021) on Saturday.

Amanda Pesikan "Kören - En film om Tensta Gospel Choir" (2021) will be screened on Monday and Hogir Hirori's "Sabaya" (2021) on Tuesday.

"Every one of the Swedish Documentary Week films will take you on a different cinematic journey, starting with a trip through time and the rich history and representation of the queer and trans community in Swedish cinema; through a fascinating journey into the history and mythological imagery of the Sami people woven together with the problem of climate change and how it threatens today's reindeer herding and subsequently the existence of Sami culture; to an extraordinary music documentary about a gospel choir in one of the most secular societies, which focuses on the human need for community and spirituality; and two documentaries on the infamous Al-Hol prison camp in Syria," a Cinematheque press release says. mr/
