Skopje, 16 September 2024 (MIA) - Justice Minister Igor Filkov met Monday with Japanese Ambassador Kazuya Otsuka, discussing reforms in judiciary, the situation in the Judicial Council and the Council of Public Prosecutors, the rule of law and fight against corruption. 

"The Ministry of Justice faces many challenges, with the ultimate goal of increasing citizens' trust in the judiciary. Such trust is a basis to strengthen business relations between the two countries," the Ministry of Justice said in a press release.

Ambassador Otsuka pointed to and identified certain situations in the judiciary regarding which he and the Minister both agreed that quick and urgent reforms are needed, reads the press release.

"Interlocutors discussed concrete guidelines on how to put the judiciary on an independent footing. This year marks the 30th anniversary of our country's bilateral cooperation with Japan, which is to deepen in the coming period along with exchanging experiences in the field of law," the press release adds.
